On the second day of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) anti-corruption rally on Monday, Nov. 17, Senator Imee Marcos made an emotional appeal to her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., to “fix himself” and undergo rehabilitation. She warned that selfish individuals have taken advantage of his condition, using it to plunder public funds and fuel corruption.
The senator, a known ally of former president Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte, alleged that her brother, his wife Liza, and their children have used illegal drugs.
She claimed the President’s addiction began when their father was still alive and has since spiraled out of control.
According to Marcos, even the presidential children—including Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos—were involved in drug use.
She further called on her brother to “come home” and prioritize his health over power: “Hinihingi ko na tayo ay umuwi na. Mamahinga. Alang-alang sa iyong kalusugan. Kaya kong mabigo at mawala sa ’yo ang posisyon pero hindi ko kayang mawala ka sa amin.”
Marcos stressed: “Ayusin mo ang sarili mo. Magpagamot. Alisin ang droga sa iyong sistema.”
The senator also said she is concerned that selfish individuals have taken advantage of her brother’s condition and stole public funds.
She said the President’s drug addiction was the reason for the widespread corruption, especially in light of the anomalies in the flood control projects, which the President himself exposed earlier following the massive flooding in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
“Walang accountability, wala nang hustisya. Hindi na niya alam ang nangyayari,” she said.
Despite her accusations, she vowed to stand by her brother through recovery: “Itama ang mali. Labanan ang adiksyon. At ako, hindi kailanman aalis sa iyong tabi.” (Hannah Torregoza)
