The PBA is also lending a hand to the victims of the Typhoon Tino in Visayas and the Super Typhoon Uwan in Luzon.
Commissioner Willie Marcial bared that the league is looking to help in the rehabilitation of the affected provinces, providing construction materials and supplies for the victims to restart their livelihood.
Marcial added that he plans to use the three-week break of the PBA to personally check and visit the affected areas as well as to coordinate with its local government units.
“Around P4 or P5 million ang ibibigay ng PBA,” said Marcial who named the Bicol Region, Cebu, Negros, Catanduanes and Aurora as among possible recipients of the aid.
Marcial said he already talked to the PBA governors regarding the matter and the teams are very much supportive of the noble cause, with some players even expected to join the league chieftain on the ground.
“Nakausap na namin yung mga (PBA) governors, and sabi namin hihiramin namin yung mga players nila na samahan kami sa proyektong ito,” Marcial added.
The move is still part of the continuous relief efforts for the typhoon victims whose houses and livelihood were all wiped out by the flood and strong winds.
Some players have already made efforts to help by donating game-worn shoes and jerseys to an auction organized by the Alagang Kapatid Foundation. SMB star June Mar Fajado had decided to auction off the first of his nine MVP trophies with the proceeds all going to his fellow Cebuanos.
