Quezon, Biñan keep win run going; Negros nears semis

Reigning champion Quezon Tangerines and runner-up Biñan Tatak Gel Arellano Lady Chiefs extended their winning streak while Negros joined the Final Four race in the 2025 Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association (MPVA) on Wednesday night at the Marikina Sports Center.

Quezon swept the Caloocan AM Spikers, 25-22, 25-13, 25-13, for its 10th straight win at 10-1 while Biñan also made short work of the San Juan Lady Knights, 25-18, 25-11, 25-19, for a 6-3 record.

The two squads figured in the finals last season but Dasma Monarchs, a new squad backed by the three-timeUAAP and SSL champion National University Lady Bulldog, are showing the way with a perfect 10-0 record in the MPVA founded by also MPBL chairman Manny Pacquiao.

Kamile Tan led the way with 12 points while power siblings Shekaina and Shahanna Lleses chipped in eight points each for the Tangerines, supported by equally potent squad in the four-peat NCAA champion College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers.

Camila Amor Bartolome and Fionna Marie Inocentes added seven and six points, respectively, for Quezon that’s priming up for a revenge bid on tormentor Dasma in the final playdate of the two-round eliminations.

For Biñan, Laika Tudlasan and Crisanta Servidad joined hands with 13 and 10 points, respectively to remain in the race for the top seeds with five games to go in its campaign.

Heart Villaflores and Catherine Domasig had nine and eight points, respectively, while Samantha Gabrielle Tiratira and Fhaye Mangubat scored six points each.

Rhea Manalo, with 10 points, was the lone bright spot for the also-ran Caloocan en route to the eighth place with a 1-10 record as San Juan, led by Mary Christine Ecalla’s seven points, slid to 4-7 to fall farther from the Final Four picture.

In the other game, Negros ICC Blue Hawks stunned the fourth-running Pasay Lady Voyagers in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22, to revive its semifinal hopes in the MPVA backed by Mikasa, Asics, Spurway Enterprise, Gerflor, Smart Communications and XIV Apparel.
