A magnitude 4.6 earthquake jolted Davao Oriental on Saturday morning, Nov. 1, according to the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-Phivolcs).
In its Earthquake Information No. 1 issued at 8:49 a.m., Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded 36 kilometers northeast of Manay, Davao Oriental. The quake had a depth of 10 kilometers and was classified as tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs confirmed that the latest tremor was an aftershock of the October 2025 offshore earthquake in Davao Oriental. The agency said no damage is expected from this event, although aftershocks may still occur.
Phivolcs also reported several, some smaller, earthquakes earlier on the same day, all tectonic in origin.
The first was recorded at 5:21 a.m. — a magnitude 5.0 tremor located 166 kilometers southeast of Tarragona, Davao Oriental, with a depth of 18 kilometers.
This was followed by a magnitude 4.2 quake at 5:39 a.m., situated 135 kilometers southeast of Tarragona at a depth of 12 kilometers.
Another magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred at 5:51 a.m., 155 kilometers southeast of the same town and 15 kilometers deep.
The latest of these smaller quakes struck at 6:02 a.m., registering a magnitude 4.4 and located 136 kilometers southeast of Tarragona, with a depth of 25 kilometers.
Phivolcs said no intensities were reported in these areas, and no damage or significant aftershocks are expected from most of the recorded tremors.
While no damage or tsunami threat has been reported, Phivolcs reminded residents in Davao Oriental and nearby provinces to remain vigilant. (Merlina Hernando-Malipot)
