Truck plunges into Chico River; 3 dead, 2 missing

A routine trip to a project site turned tragic Monday morning, October 27, when a truck carrying five construction workers plunged into the Chico River in Barangay Tocucan, Bontoc, Mountain Province—leaving three dead and two missing.

According to the Bontoc Operations Center, the truck was headed to Sadanga, Mountain Province when it sideswiped two parked vehicles along the road and veered off into the river below.

Search and rescue teams rushed to the scene and recovered three bodies, all declared dead on the spot by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Gomez.

The victims were reportedly en route to a construction site when the accident occurred.

Efforts to locate the remaining two workers continue, with search, rescue, and retrieval operations underway along the riverbanks and surrounding areas.

Authorities have launched a follow-up investigation to determine the cause of the crash and assess road safety conditions in the area. (Zaldy Comanda)
