The Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the fire that struck the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) office in Quezon City on Wednesday, Oct. 22, to determine whether it was accidental or intentional.
In a statement, Assistant Ombudsman Jose Dominic Clavano IV said Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla ordered the immediate coordination with the NBI and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to establish the cause of the blaze and whether arson or any deliberate act was involved.
Several DPWH personnel are currently under investigation over anomalous flood control projects that allegedly cost the government billions of pesos.
The fire reportedly broke out around 12:30 p.m., reached the third alarm at 12:56 p.m., and was declared out by the BFP-National Capital Region at 1:34 p.m. (Czarina Ong Ki)
