Two moderate earthquakes struck the Visayas and Mindanao regions on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, both confirmed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) as aftershocks of earlier major tremors.

At 12:59 p.m., a magnitude 4.2 quake jolted Bogo City, Cebu, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Less than half an hour later, at 1:26 p.m., a magnitude 4.6 tremor hit offshore Manay, Davao Oriental, at a depth of 14 kilometers.

Phivolcs identified the Cebu quake as an aftershock of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck offshore Northern Cebu on Sept. 30.

Meanwhile, the Davao Oriental tremor was linked to the October 2025 Offshore Davao Oriental earthquake.

Both quakes were tectonic in origin, caused by the movement of rock layers beneath the earth’s crust. Phivolcs said no damage or further aftershocks are expected from either event. (Jel Santos)
