Quezon, Basilan favored in MPBL playoffs

Reigning South Division champion Quezon Province is favored over Mindoro at 6 p.m. on Monday, when the Manny Pacquiao Presents MPBL 2025 Season playoff round resumes at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.
Basilan Starhorse, on the other hand, is projected to meet stiff resistance from GenSan in the 4 p.m. opener of the best-of-three quarterfinal series.
Loaded with talent, experience and firepower, the Huskers emerged as the best performer among South teams in the round-robin elimination phase, where they subdued the Tamaraws, 88-72.
Quezon’s key players are LJ Gonzales, Judel Fuentes, Gab Banal, Joseph Gabayni, Will Gozum, JP Sarao, Jason Opiso, Alfancis Tamsi, Ximone Sandagon and Diego Dario.
Mindoro, making its first playoff appearance since joining the MPBL in 2019, will bank on Ino Comboy, Joseph Sedurifa, Axel Inigo, Bam Gamalinda and Jonas Tibayan.
The Basilan Portmasters, backed Red Dynasty, nipped the Gensan Warriors, 75-72, in the elimination round, but would need more contributions from Adi Santos, Sherwin Concepcion, Alex Cabagnot Enzo Joson, Renzo Navarro, Arwind Santos and Gab Dagangon if they wish to repeat over the Warriors.
Gensan will again lean on Val Acuna, Mark Cruz, Nico Elorde, Felix Apreku, Kyle Tolentino and Larry Rodriguez.
