Adamson got off to a strong start and rolled past University of the East, 54-43, to wheel back on the winning track of the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball tournament at the newly-refurbished Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City Saturday, Oct. 11.
Putting behind a devastating 51-69 loss to reigning champion National University, the Lady Falcons came through with an explosive second quarter attack through the red-hot shooting of Cheska Apag and Elainte Etang to take control of the game on the way to the final buzzer.
UE waged a comeback in the third but it did little damage as the Lady Falcons went on to notch their second win against three defeats at fifth spot, while UE remained winless in four matches at the bottom of the standings.
“I think part lang talaga sa game plan namin ‘yon na right from the get go, pick up na agad sa defense namin kaagad,” said Adamson head coach Jed Colonia said.
“We’re number three in terms of defensive stats UAAP as far as we know, and kaya we’re there to capitalize on our defense talaga,” he added.
Apag led Adamson with 13 points, four rebounds, one assist, and three steals, while Etang scored 10 which went with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Meanwhile in the juniors division, Edison Jordan delivered a game-winning layup to lift Adamson past UE, 83-82, to surpass their last season’s outing with a current 4-2 win-loss record.
Despite finishing with only 12 points, Jordan’s crucial basket helped the Baby Falcons end their two-game skid while handing the Junior Red Warriors their second defeat in five starts.
He also posted three rebounds, four assists, and three steals with Keefe Iledan topped their scoring column with 19, while Vengcs Vengco added 13. UE, on the other hand, was led by Goodluck Okebata who dominated with a double-double of 22 points and 21 rebounds on top of five steals, two blocks, and two assists in a losing cause.
In the second game, Miguel Jubilado produced a 27-point show as University of Santo Tomas rallied in the third to turn back Ateneo, 83-74, in front of its homecourt fans.
Jubilado collected 10 rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block with Rowie Cabañero backing him up with 14 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and three steals.
