The Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Tuesday, Oct. 7, expressed its gratitude to the commander of the Armed Forces security unit tasked with protecting Vice President Sara Duterte, following his relief from duty.

The OVP thanked Col. Raymund Dante Lachica for his “outstanding contributions” to the institution.

“We have accomplished more than our targets because of his support to the vision of a life of peace and comfort for all Filipinos,” the statement read.

“We salute his resoluteness, professionalism, and integrity,” it added.

The OVP said that it was only able to confirm Lachica’s relief “upon his receipt of the order yesterday, October 6, 2025.”

It added that no explanation was given about the removal of Lachica, who was previously linked to the alleged misuse of the OVP’s controversial confidential funds.

According to reports, Lachica was the commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Security and Protection Group (ASPG)—formerly the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG).

The AFP also confirmed in a statement that Lachica has been reassigned back to the Philippine Army effective Oct. 4, citing an existing case filed against him and former VPSPG deputy commander Colonel Dennis Nolasco before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Lachica was replaced by Lt. Col. Joseph Israel B. Eleosida as acting commander of ASPG.

“The AFP ensures a smooth transition of leadership to maintain the efficiency and professionalism of the ASPG in the performance of its mandated mission,” it said. (with a report from Martin Sadongdong)
