Coach Olsen, Altas stun Cardinals, stay perfect

Patrick Sleat put up yet another impressive performance as University of Perpetual Help pulled the rug from under defending champion Mapua, 75-65, in the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The transferee from Far Eastern University presided over a strong second half showing that saw the Altas pull away from a tight contest and keep their record pristine through three games.

Sleat did a little bit of everything with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists to go with three steals and a block.

JP Boral had 15 points while LA Casinilo and Mark Gojo Cruz chipped 13 and 12 respectively.

“This is a culmination of so many hours in practice and the preseason,” said coach Olsen Racela.

“I can’t take credit for the skills my players have. It was a total team effort,” he added as the Altas outscored the Cardinals 36-25 in the last two quarters after trailing by one, 39-40 at intermission.

JC Recto registered 16 points, two rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block for the Cardinals but to no avail.

Cyril Gonzales also dropped 15 poin ts but it was not enough as reigning MVP Clint Escamis was limited to just six.
