Fresh off back-to-back first-round finishes that have reestablished him as a rising bantamweight threat, Carlo “The Bull” Bumina-ang will face his stiffest test yet when he squares off against undefeated submission specialist Elbek Alyshov at ONE Fight Night 37 on Prime Video.
The pivotal bantamweight MMA clash takes place in Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday, November 8, with possible ranking implications in the stacked 145-pound division.
Bumina-ang has emerged as the standard-bearer for Team Lakay’s next generation, carrying the torch for the legendary Baguio-based camp. The 31-year-old Filipino phenom boasts an impressive 8-1 record, with seven of those victories coming against elite competition on the global stage.
“The Bull” made history as the first Filipino fighter to earn a lucrative US$100,000 ONE Championship contract through the Friday Fights platform.
The milestone moment came when he submitted Chayan Oorzhak with a ninja choke at ONE Friday Fights 65 last year.
His momentum was briefly halted by Mongolia’s Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu at ONE Fight Night 24, where he saw his unbeaten record snapped by the notorious Filipino tormentor.
Rather than let the devastating defeat define him, Bumina-ang used it as motivation to sharpen his tools and address the gaps in his game.
He emphatically bounced back with a first-round TKO over respected South Korean veteran Song Min Jong at ONE Fight Night 28. This was followed by another devastating first-round finish over Argentina’s Mauro Mastromarini at ONE Fight Night 30 last April.
Now, Bumina-ang will be tested like never before against a fighter who hasn’t tasted defeat in nine professional bouts.
Standing across the ring will be Alyshov, the undefeated Russian-Azerbaijani submission specialist who announced his arrival in spectacular fashion.
The 26-year-old grappling phenom made an immediate impact in his promotional debut at ONE Fight Night 34, where he dominated Jeremy “The Juggernaut” Pacatiw before finishing him off with a tight arm-triangle choke in round 2.
The clash of styles promises fireworks, with Bumina-ang’s explosive striking and finishing power meeting Alyshov’s suffocating ground game and submission expertise.
