A total of 2,185 families affected by a devastating fire in Barangay 105, Happyland, Tondo, Manila received P15,000 each in financial assistance from the city government to support their recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso personally visited the fire-stricken community to distribute the cash aid and offer support to the displaced residents.

The fire broke out late Saturday night, September 13, originating in Buildings 7 and 8 along Road 10.

It began at approximately 8:27 p.m. and quickly engulfed the densely populated area, where homes were primarily constructed from light materials, making them highly vulnerable to flames.

It was declared under control on Sunday morning, Sept. 14.

“Mahirap ang buhay, pero narito ang gobyerno para maramdaman ninyo ang agarang aksiyon at tulong. Huwag mag-give up, may awa ang Diyos, makararaos din tayo,” the mayor said.

Domagoso also reminded the public that the assistance is strictly for legitimate victims of the fire and should not be taken advantage of by those who were not affected. (Diann Calucin)
