A 22-year-old motorcycle rider died in a head-on collision with a van in Antipolo City on Friday, Sept. 5, after losing control of his motorcycle when the hem of his raincoat got caught in the rear wheel.
According to initial investigation of the Antipolo City Component Police Station (CCPS), the victim — identified only as “Junior” — was travelling along Kapatagan Road toward Marcos Highway at around 6:05 a.m. His motorcycle was reportedly loaded with fresh chicken.
At the same time, a van, driven by a man identified as “Ramel,” was approaching from the opposite direction.
Authorities said that as Junior reached the area of the incident, the raincoat allegedly got caught in the motorcycle’s rear wheel, causing him to lose control and swerve into the opposite lane. This lead to a direct collision with the van.
The impact inflicted a severe head injury on the rider, who was rushed to Cabading Hospital. He was declared dead on arrival at around 7:25 a.m.
Authorities said that the van’s driver is currently detained. (Richielyn Canlas)
