Israel Friday, newly recruited UP big man from CEU, passes away at 19

Former Centro Escolar University standout and new University of the Philippines recruit Israel Osamudiame Friday passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 19 after collapsing during their team practice Tuesday, Aug. 19. He was 19.

This was confirmed by UP’s Office of Athletics and Sports Development (OASD), but the cause of death of the 6-foot-10 big man is still undetermined. He was about to turn 20 next month.

According to OASD, Friday was immediately taken to the nearby hospital but still passed away despite the efforts from the medical staff.

The Abuja, Nigeria native suited up for CEU in UCAL where he led the Scorpions in several statistical categories.

He was one of the dominant forces for CEU before he decided to bring his talent to UP.

The school is currently in contact with his Friday’s family who is asking for privacy during this tough time. UP vowed to support the family of Friday.
