One vintage performance deserves another.

And rightfully so as Alex Cabagnot once again recalled his old brilliance to help Basilan Starhorse pull off an 86-79 win over Sarangani in the MPBL 2025 Season at the Orion Sports Complex in Bataan on Tuesday, Aug. 19.

The former PBA star posted 17 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals to earn best player honors – a feat that belies his age.

He’s now 42 years old but Cabagnot has proven that he is still capable of playing at the highest level – even against younger rivals.

His performance enabled the Portmasters to climb to 12-11 in the round-robin elimination phase of the two-division, 30-team tournament, thus boosting their playoff bid in their return to the regional league after several years of absence.

“Another solid game from one of our battle-tested veterans,” said co-team owner Jackson Chua of Red Dynasty. “Hopefully we can sustain our run on the way to playoffs.”

In other games, theNueva Ecija Rice Vanguards led throughout and routed the Imus Braderhood, 76-62, while the Pampanga Giant Lanterns clawed their way back from a deep hole to thwart the Bataan Risers, 97-90.

Arwind Santos, who had great and memorable years together with Cabagnot at San Miguel, had 8 points.

The Portmasters, who sped away, 80-62, midway through the fourth quarter, tightened their hold of the eighth spot in the South Division, being led by the Quezon Huskers (18-4) and Zamboanga SiKat (16-7).
Cabagnot was supported by Adi Santos with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, Emman Calo with 9 points.
