Two women were found dead with gunshot wounds in a canal at Purok 5, Barangay Salaza, Palauig, Zambales, early Thursday morning, August 14, just hours after gunfire was heard in the area.

The victims were identified as alias “Khangkhang,” 24, a resident of Purok Relocation, Barangay Taltal in Masinloc, Zambales, and alias “Lengleng,” a resident of Tarlac.

Local resident Lolita reported hearing a speeding vehicle followed by a series of gunshots late Wednesday night. She initially dismissed the sounds and went to sleep.

At around 6:30 a.m. the next day, she discovered the bodies in the canal near her home.

Capt. Leoven Eduagen, officer-in-charge of the Palauig Municipal Police Station, confirmed that Khangkhang sustained three gunshot wounds in the back, while Lengleng suffered a fatal wound near her eyebrow.

Probers recovered from the scene five empty .45-caliber shell casings, 15 empty transparent sachets, and assorted personal belongings.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the killings and working to identify the suspects.
