Russel Je Ricaforte took the spotlight during the PATAFA weekly relays on Saturday, Aug. 2, after shattering the long-standing Philippine record in men’s discus throw.
Ricaforte, team captain of the Ateneo track and field team, heaved 54.14 meters to eclipse the 34-year-old mark of 52.10m set by Fidel Repizo at the 1991 Southeast Asian Games that the country hosted.
The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) confirmed Ricaforte’s effort.
The Ateneo track and field team also congratulated Ricaforte’s feat.
“A historic milestone for Philippine athletics — and a proud moment for Ateneo!” the team posted.
