President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the immediate suspension of all State of the Nation Address (SONA)-related preparations as the country grapples with widespread flooding brought about by continuous rains.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced the directive on Tuesday, July 22, noting that the President was dismayed by reports of government personnel installing SONA materials while many communities are battling the impacts of “habagat” or southwest monsoon.

Bersamin stressed that Marcos wants all government agencies to channel their full attention and resources toward flood response and relief operations.

“Let me be clear: all SONA-related preparations are hereby ordered immediately suspended,” he said, emphasizing the President’s directive to prioritize the safety and welfare of the Filipino people in this time of crisis.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other concerned agencies were reminded to act accordingly and respond swiftly to the situation.

The President himself addressed the public in a late-night message on Monday, assuring that concerned agencies have been instructed to promptly respond to impacts of flooding in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces. (Betheena Unite)
