Malacañang announced the suspension of government work and classes at all levels in Metro Manila and nearby provinces on July 22 due to intense rains from the southwest monsoon (habagat).
Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s recommendation.
The suspension covers Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro.
Essential government agencies will remain operational, with non-vital personnel allowed to adopt alternate work arrangements.
Local chief executives in other regions may impose localized suspensions, while private sector decisions are left to company discretion.
The Palace had suspended afternoon classes and government work on July 21 due to intensified rainfall.
PAGASA forecasts intense to torrential rain (100–200 mm) over Metro Manila and nearby areas, and moderate to heavy rain (50–100 mm) across other parts of Luzon. (Betheena Unite)
