The Philippine Blu Girls opened their campaign at the Women’s Softball Asia Cup 2025 in style by drubbing Southeast Asian rival Thailand, 15-1, in Xian, China on Monday, July 14.

Trailing 0-1 after the first inning, the Blu Girls stormed back to life with right fielder Roma Jane Cruz delivering a three-run home run to left center that sparked an explosive 11-run barrage in the second that set the tone for a runaway win.

Glory Alonzo and Sydney Vitangcol were superb on the mound in the final two innings to seal the win.

The Blu Girls are battling South Korea and powerhouse Japan at press time as they eye a Top 3 finish in the tournament that offers World Cup slot next year.

A Top 8 effort will also punch them a ticket to the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan next year.

Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier lauded the team’s strong start.
