Makati FC set in motion its 40th annual Euro Tour with a valiant second place finish from its Girls U13 squad at the Iber Cup in Estoril, Portugal.
In a gripping final against home team Sporting CP, Makati FC showed nothing but heart, discipline, and skill, before dropping a 7-8 decision via penalties after a 2-2 stalemate in full time.
After conceding an early goal, Chayada Sawangrom and Nafeeza Ayesha Mori gave Makati FC a 2-1 lead late in the second half until Sporting CP equalized in the last second and pushed the match into a penalty shootout.
It was a tough break in the shootout, as Makati FC was ahead 7-6 but Sporting CP scored the last two spot kicks to emerge triumphant.
Makati FC defeated Sporting CP, 3-2, in the group stage.
Makati FC is now in Helsinki for the Helsinki Cup, where the decorated Philippine youth club will compete in the Girls U13 and Boys U14 divisions, which started Monday.
Wrapping up the swing is the Gothia World Youth Cup, the world’s biggest youth football tournament in Gothenburg, Sweden, where the Girls U13 and Boys U14 sides will see action.
