An elderly motorist who shot two people during a road rage incident in Tanay, Rizal, was arrested after a 15-minute police chase that ended at a checkpoint in Morong on Monday, July 7.
According to Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) Chief Col. Feloteo Gonzalgo, the suspect, driving a Mazda hatchback, aggressively cut the lane of the victims’ pickup truck, resulting in a collision.
The suspect got out of his car and confronted the pickup’s driver. He then retrieved a .40-caliber pistol from his car and opened fire, hitting the driver multiple times and injuring the front passenger’s foot.
Responding police officers pursued the suspect and cornered him at a checkpoint in Morong, Rizal.
Police recovered the suspect’s .40-caliber pistol, live ammunition, two huge knives, and even a police blinker.
“May blinker pa sa loob ng sasakyan, para bang talagang ginagamit na niya sa kanyang pagtakas, for example, para mabilis siyang makaalis,” Gonzalgo said.
The suspect, who confessed to the shooting, cited extreme anger as the motive but declined to elaborate further. He is now detained at the Tanay Municipal Police Station and facing multiple charges.
Police said the pickup truck’s passenger had already been discharged from the hospital, while the driver is still recovering from his wounds. (Patrick Garcia)
