Seven-foot center Greg Slaughter is set to join Starhorse-Basilan in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) forming a core of former PBA players in the likes of Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot and Jervy Cruz.

Slaughter is actually making his return to the regional basketball league after last suiting up with Manila last season and is expected to start training with the team next week.

Co-team owner Jackson Chua is convinced the arrival of Slaughter would fuel Starhorse-Basilan’s bid to secure a slot in the playoffs.

They are sporting an even 8-8 record – good for a share of 17th spot.

But with Slaughter’s arrival, Chua hopes they can string together victories and move up to the ladder.

For one, a reliable inside operator with his height and heft, should be a big boost to Basilan’s frontline. His presence inside the paint could also help create space for fellow big men in Cruz and Santos who both have a steady perimeter game.
