Patrick Gregorio is set to take over as the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the agency tasked to oversee the country’s sports program,.
He will replace Richard “Dicky” Bachmann, who held the position since 2022 after succeeding forme PBA Commissioner Noli Eala.
The development was confirmed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who relayed the information through his message to the Palace reporters Saturday afternoon, June 28.
Gregorio has been a familiar face in Philippine sports after having served as Philippine Basketball Association chairman, a co-chef de mission of the national team that competed in the Paris Olympics last August and president of the Philippine Rowing Association that produced two Olympians.
He recently helped organized the revival of the fabled Tour of Luzon.
In between, he has served as one of the top executives of the Manny V. Pangilinan Group, which is well known for supporting sports in the country as well as Filipino athletes including Olympic gymnastics double gold medalist winner Carlos Yulo.
He will take over the position occupied by Bachmann, who was appointed in December 2022.
Interestingly, Gregorio will be the PSC’s fourth chair in the last three years with the other two being William “Butch” Ramirez and Noli Eala.
Ramirez finished his term in June 2022 under then President Rodrigo Duterte, while Eala was appointed by President Marcos in August 2022 before Bachmann took over.
