The Philippine women’s tennis team streaked to its second win with a 3-0 over Iran in the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group II at the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Wednesday, June 18.
Fueled by a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan the other day, the Filipina hitters came out blazing and torched the Iranians throughout their three matches to improve their slate to 2-1 and take the No. 2 spot in Group B.
Up next for the Nationals is Pacific Oceania (1-1).
Iran fell to 0-2, the same record of Uzbekistan.
Tennielle Madis started the day right for the Nationals after authoring a 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Iran’s Mandegar Farzami in their Match 1 singles clash.
It was then followed by a dominant performance from Alex Joy Milliam who demolished Meshkatolzahra Safi, 6-1, 6-1 in Match 2.
Milliam and Shaira Hope Rivera then hammered the final nail on Iran’s coffin in Match 3 doubles, scoring a 6-1, 7-6(7) victory over Safi and Kimia Sagheb Tehrani.
Guided by BJK Cup alumni and SEA Games veteran Denise Dy, the Nationals dropped their opening game against the Indons.
The Filipinas are out to achieve a Group I promotion despite the absence of their star Alex Eala.
Eala led the PH squad last year in Bahrain that enabled them to be to Group II from Group III.
