TNT seemed to have finally moved on from Mikey Williams, sending the rights of the controversial guard to Converge in exchange of Jordan Heading – a deal that is already forwarded to the PBA trade committee for approval.
In dire need of a floor general for their Grand Slam bid with both Jayson Castro and Rey Nambatac sidelined with respective injuries, the Tropang 5G finally got their hands on a point guard who could set the play and spread the floor.
Heading, when healthy, has proven to be a valuable asset for Converge through his first two conferences with the team.
He was even part of the Best Player of the Conference conversations back in the Commissioner’s Cup after averaging 17.7 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game.
The TNT debut of the Fil-Australian guard, however, may still have to wait as he is still recovering from a back injury and has only been doing light workout.
Still, it’s surely a huge step forward for the TNT franchise which reportedly has been trying to bring Williams back in the fold after the two-time Finals MVP went on a sabbatical after a contract standoff.
There were efforts from the two sides to reconnect but any negotiation seemed to have fallen through until TNT had decided to move forward and ship him for Heading who head coach Chot Reyes could pair with other deadly outside shooters in RR Pogoy and Calvin Oftana.
Williams is reportedly already in the country before the high ranking TNT and Converge officials agreed to the swap
