Zaijian Jaranilla is stepping into new creative territory.

The former child star, best known for his more wholesome roles, shared his excitement about taking on more mature material in the upcoming Puregold Channel original series “Si Sol at Si Luna,” directed by Dolly Dulu.

The series, which premieres May 31 on Puregold’s YouTube Channel, marks a bold pivot for the actor as he plays Sol, a young film student who falls for an older woman, Luna, played by Jane Oineza.

Jaranilla opened up about shooting intimate scenes with Oineza, a highlight in what could very well be a career-defining performance for the young actor.

“Kinabahan din po ako talaga noong kinuhanan ang eksena kasi nga hindi pa naman talaga ako nakakagawa nang ganun sa iba kong projects,” he admitted. “Pero credit po kay Ate Jane, inalalayan po niya talaga ako kaya maayos naming nagawa.”

Asked about what it was like to kiss his on-screen partner—whom he respectfully calls Ate Jane—he was endearingly honest: “Speechless po. Talagang wala akong masabi.”

But while the physicality of their connection has sparked early buzz, the heart of “Si Sol at Si Luna” lies in its emotional depth. The series goes beyond romance to explore grief, timing, and the quiet ache of connection that doesn’t always arrive when you’re ready for it.

“At its core, the series is about love—but not the kind that comes easy,” said Ivy Hayagan-Piedad, Puregold’s Senior Marketing Manager. “It asks: Where do we find love? What do we do with it when it comes at the most unexpected time? Luna’s story is about loving through grief. Sol’s is about loving through transformation. Whether love can survive both—that’s the question the audience will ponder on.”

Also featuring Joao Constancia, Uzziel Delamide, Vaughn Piczon, Lyle Viray, Jem Manicad, Marnie Lapus, and Atasha Franco, the stirring and unconventional “Si Sol at Si Luna” is apt to catch fire.
