A 31-year-old man was shot and killed by his neighbor in Pasig City, after being mistaken for a thief – despite his desperate attempt to explain and plead for his life.

Barangay security footage showed the victim, Nano, approaching the suspect’s residence in Barangay Maybunga on Tuesday, May 13, intending to speak with him.

In a TV interview, the victim’s live-in partner revealed that the suspect believed Nano was a burglar, claiming he had been seen on their roof carrying a hammer.

However, witnesses contradicted his claim. They stated that Nano was just searching for something outside the suspect’s house and the CCTV footage showed he was not carrying a hammer.

They also noted that Nano introduced himself to the suspect and explained he was not a burglar. He pleaded for his life and mentioned that he has a two-year-old child, but the suspect refused to listen.

Barangay Maybunga officials responded to the incident and found the victim lying face down, lifeless. He had sustained a gunshot wound in the chest, with the bullet exiting through his side.

The suspect fled immediately but later surrendered to authorities. He is now facing charges of homicide, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and violation of the election gun ban under the Omnibus Election Code.

The suspect is currently detained at the Pasig City Custodial Facility.

SEEKING JUSTICE

Nano’s grieving live-in partner took to social media to appeal for justice, expressing her devastation over his death due to wrongful accusation.

“Sa [isang] iglap kinuha yung buhay mo ng iba tao, [nang] dahil lang sa maling akala nagawa nila kunin yung buhay mo, Nano!! Magkakahustisya ka, pangako, kahit sa kahuli-hulihan, Ipaglalaban ka pa din namen! Mahal ka namen lahat!,” she said.

She also shared how unimaginable it was to be seeking justice on social media, as the others had done before.

However, she said she was doing it for their two-year-old child, who will now grow up without a father.

She thanked Mayor Vico Sotto and Rep. Roman Romulo for their condolences and for visiting Nano’s wake. (Richielyn Canlas)
