At just 21 years old, Jamila Ruma, daughter of slain Mayor Joel Ruma of Rizal town, Cagayan, has made history as the youngest mayor in the province and the country.
She secured victory in the mayoral race, defeating Ralph Mamauag and Florence Littaua.
According to official results, Jamila received 5,134 votes surpassing Mamauag’s 3,661 and Littaua’s 170.
Jamila replaced her reelectionist father who was gunned down by unidentified gunmen while campaigning in Barangay Illuru Sur on Wednesday evening, April 23.
