Senatorial candidate Benhur Abalos admitted he was surprised with Vice Ganda’s vote of confidence as made obvious in a recent viral video circulating in social media.
There, the popular comedian-TV host lauded Abalos, deeming him among candidates that matter.
“Nasorpresa ako sa support ni Vice Ganda. Hindi siya basta-basta nag-i-endorso ng kandidato, mapili siya. Kaya ako ay lubos na nagpapasalamat. Imagine, the video already has 17 million views,” Abalos said.
“It’s a simple 30-second video (but) very catchy. Through his efforts, nabigyan ang mga tao ng pagkakataon na makilala pa ako,” he added.
Vice isn’t his lone celebrity supporter.
Other celebrities such as Jake Cuenca, Ai Ai de las Alas, Priscilla Meirelles, Bea Santiago, among others, also created their own videos expressing support for his candidacy.
Meanwhile, Regal Entertainment, as led by the mother and son tandem of Roselle and Keith Monteverde, recently sponsored a get-together for Abalos as attended by several industry stalwarts.
These include film director Perci Intalan, actor Nico Antonio, actress Phoebe Walker, and Mowelfund Chairwoman Boots Anson-Rodrigo, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes.
They all crowed about Abalos being a huge help to the film industry particularly during the Covid pandemic.
Abalos on his part promised to continue with the efforts.
“One day, I want to see our film industry rise with proper government support and subsidies, because that’s the only way,” he said.
