Kiko Estrada admits he feels tremendous pressure taking on the iconic role of Totoy Bato, among Komiks characters that the legendary Fernando Poe Jr. made popular.

But rather than wilt, wither, fade, Kiko is rushing head on, eager to prove his worth.

“Pressure is a must. Pressure makes diamonds,” he stressed with a smile, going on to share how he has prepared himself for the task.

According to Kiko, he has been hitting the gym, staying there far longer than usual.

He has also been taking boxing lessons.

“I’d like to let people know that I’m going to do my best for this one. Actually, even before ‘Lumuhod Ka sa Lupa’ ended, I’ve already started preparing mentally and physically for this,” he said.

The 32-year-old added, “What I did with ‘Lumuhod Ka sa Lupa’ was more like, trial and error. But with ‘Totoy Bato,’ I think I’m more prepared. And I’m with a good team, the same director, Albert Langitan, and the same production team, so, I’m excited. Our goal is to make this one as good as an actual movie.”

“Totoy bato” is quite personal for Kiko, relating how his grandfather, Paquito Diaz was actually FPJ’s nemesis in the original film.

“My Lolo Paquito is a huge inspiration for me. Siya po yung nagpalaki sa akin nung bata ako and he is a big inspiration sa akin particularly in acting. So, at the end of the day, kontrabida man siya sa ibang tao but in my life, bida yung lolo Paquito ko.”

Kiko is dedicating his work in “Totoy Bato” not only to his grandfather but also his grandmother, Nena Diaz.

“This is dedicated to my family, so it’s more personal. And I want to make them proud.”

Produced by MavenPro and Sari-Sari Network, Inc., in collaboration with Studio Viva, “Totoy Bato” starts airing May 5, 7pm as part of TV5’s TodoMax Primetime Singko block.
