Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent arm, has just launched the Star Magic School for the Creative & Performing Arts (SMSCPA).

Known prior simply as the Star Magic Workshop, SMSCPA is meant to nurture performers across multiple disciplines via an expanded curriculum that includes acting, singing, dancing, directing, among others, with master classes taught by some of the most respected mentors in the industry.

These include HB Benitez III, SMSCPA kids acting coach; Alecx Lorica and Marcel David, SMSCPA Meisner acting coach for teens and adults; Meann Espinosa, SMSCPA theater acting coach.

Then there’s Jon Moll, director of several ABS-CBN TV programs; voice mentors Julie Anne Reyes; the coaches of both BGYO and BINI, Anna Graham and Jerwin Nicomedes; dance and choreography coaches Mickey Perz, Reden Blanquera, Matthew Almodovar, Aennon Tabungar, and Josh Junio.

Present at the launch were Laurenti Dyogi, head of ABS-CBN TV production and ABS-CBN business unit head Raymund Dizon along with Kirby Balagtas, executive director of YouMeUsMNL; Dale Recina, creative producer of YouMeUsMNL; and Troi Bautista, producer and multimedia manager of YouMeUsMNL.

Dizon emphasized the need to learn from the best, maintaining, “Experts in the school have different point of views na na-i-instill sa ating mga star dreamers to keep them relevant…”

Perz also shared, “A lot of people have talent, but how do you nurture that? That’s when you put skill into it.”

He added: “If you want to evolve, you have to humble yourself enough na you have to work hard for what you want to get.”

As to what dreamers can expect from SMSCPA, Benitez said, “Acting is more than just memorizing and reciting lines; acting is about truth; it’s about exploring the complexities of the character and delving into the depths of the human experience and illuminating the truths that connect us all; that’s why we, at SMSCPA have expanded and have added more acting courses.”

Naming some of the school’s more accomplished students, Reyes mentioned Sofronio Vasquez, “The Voice US” Season 26 champ.

“He was with us sa Star Magic workshops for 5 consecutive classes, from basic to master class,” she shared.

Benitez added, “Yung mga nanggaling sa workshop na talagang ipinagmalalaki namin, yung talagang nag excel sila sa napili nilang field… sa acting it would be the likes of Joshua Garcia, Arjo Atayde, Alora Sasam for comedy, Dimples Romana, actually ang dami.”

Onsite enrollment opens March 29-30. It will continue on April 5-6.
