Super rookies Shaina Nitura and Frances Mordi produced superb performances anew as Adamson outclassed University of the East, 25-20, 25-15, 25-12, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball at Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday, Feb. 26.
Still reeling from a three-set loss to La Salle over the weekend, the Lady Falcons had a hard time finding their range, but when they pulled their act together, there was no stopping them as they peppered the Lady Warriors with variety of power spikes.
Adamson improved its record to 2-1, tying the University of the Philippine Fighting Maroons, while UE fell to 0-3 – the only winless team in the league.
“Siguro number one ‘yong Shaina talaga ‘yong leadership nya talaga…,” said Adamson coach JP Yude. “Sabi ko nga sa kanya be yourself lang, laruin mo kung anong tini-traing mo.”
And Nitura did exactly what she was told to do inside the court and she relished it.
“Kailangan namin madaanan ‘yong mga ganun challenges, kailangan namin ‘yon para makilala si panalo,” said Nitura with a smile.
The 20-year-old Nitura led the team anew with 18 points built on 16 spikes, one block and one ace along with 11 excellent digs.
It was the third consecutive double-digit numbers for Nitura after firing a record 33 in the team’s gutsy win over Ateneo and 16 in a losing effort against La Salle.
Mordi was equally impressive, adding 11 with four excellent receptions while setter Felicity Sagaysay produced 15 excellent sets
Nessa Bangayan and Khy Cepada registered 11 and 10 points, respectively, for UE.
