Carlo Biado advanced to the semifinals while Rubilen Amit suffered a heartbreaking quarterfinals defeat in billiards’ 9-ball singles of the World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama Friday (Saturday in Manila).

Biado, the reigning US Open Pool champion, drubbed Austria’s Albin Ouschan, 11-7, to barge into the next round while Amit succumbed to Germany’s Veronika Ivanovskaia in a hill-hill battle, 8-7, during their own quarterfinal battle.

Biado’s victory set him up a duel with Germany’s Joshua Filler, who crushed American Shane Van Boening, 11-3.

Trailing 7-6, Biado worked his way up and won the next five racks to boot out Ouschan.

Meanwhile, Annie Ramirez lost in the bronze-medal match to France’s Laurence Fouillat, 14-0, in the women’s 57kg Ne-Waza event in jiujitsu.

It was a painful loss for Ramirez, who beat Fouillat in the group stage, 3-0.

In other events, Phillip Delarmino and Leanna Bade failed in their medal bids in muay thai.

Delarmino bowed to Ukraine’s Vladyslav Mykytas, 30-28, in the men’s 57kg quarters while Bade lost to Thailand’s Janejra Wankrue, 29-28, in the women’s 63.5kg class.
