COTABATO CITY – Marine soldiers and policemen arrested two alleged members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) while transporting smuggled cigarettes worth P1.5 million in Matanog, Maguindanao, over the weekend.

Lt. Chester Ross Cabaltera, spokesperson of Naval Forces Western Mindanao, identified the suspects as Karim Omar and Abdullah Saidan.

Their cargo truck was found loaded with Fort brand smuggled cigarettes after it was flagged down at a checkpoint on national highway in Barangay Sapad, Matanog town, last December 27.

He said the suspects were taken to the Matanog police station after they failed to present pertinent documents relative to the importation of the seized cigarettes.

Authorities tagged the suspects as behind the smuggling activities in the area. (Joseph Jubelag)
