4 senior citizens dead in Negros road mishap

BACOLOD CITY – Four female senior citizens who were drinking coffee by the roadside died Wednesday after an Isuzu Dmax rammed into a store in Barangay Bae, Jimalalud, Negros Oriental.

Police identified the victims as Lydia Garsula, 80, and Remedios Fabillar, 65, both residents of Barangay Panglaya-an; Herminilda Gantalao, 76, of Barangay Tamao; and Milagros Garsula, 82, of Barangay Bae.

The pick-up truck was driven by 62-year-old Robert Lim, a businessman, of Barangay North Poblacion.

Chief Master Sgt. Edilberto Euraoba III, Negros Oriental police public information officer, said that based on the initial investigation, the victims were sitting at the store when the accident happened.

Two of the victims were taken to Jimalalud Rural Health Unit, where they were declared dead, while the two other victims were brought to Guihulngan City District Hospital, where they expired.

Lim was also brought to Ace Medical Doctors in Dumaguete City. (Glazyl Masculino)
