2 retired cops, 2 others killed in Leyte ambush

TACLOBAN City – Two retired police officers and two others were killed in an ambush staged by car-riding gunmen in Palo, Leyte, Saturday night.

Police Maj. Jomen Collado, Palo Municipal Police Station chief, identified the victims as Dennis Monteza; Constantino Torre, in-laws and both retired police officers and residents of Barangay Libertad of said town; Ian Pat Dolina, a high-value drug personality target; and his live-in partner Maritess Pami.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victims were on board a white pickup truck when  unidentified gunmen on board a car peppered their vehicle with bullets.

The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Torre died on the spot while Monteza, Dolina, and Pami expired while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Palo, according to Collado.

The official said the motive behind the killing could be drug-related.

Authorities are still conducting a follow-up investigation on the incident. (Marie Tonette Marticio)
