Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Lawyer Emil Marañon, Brillantes’ former chief of staff at the poll body, revealed this in a Twitter post Saturday.

“My old boss, mentor, and second father, Sixto Brillantes Jr., was diagnosed with COVID-19 and he badly needs our prayer,” he said.

Brillantes’ daughter, Zeena, also asked for prayers for his 80-year-old father.

“Someone recently told me that prayers are better when they are specific. Please include our dad, Sixto Brillantes Jr., in your prayers. Please,” she said in a Facebook post.

“#COVIDay11 #IntubationDay1 #PleasePapa,” added Zeena.

A known election lawyer, Brillantes was head of the Comelec from January 2011 to February 2015.

He was appointed Comelec chairman by then President Benigno S. Aquino III. (Leslie Ann Aquino)
