ROVILSON Fernandez enumerated “gasgas” gender stereotypes on GMA News TV in his “Ang Pinaka” show. Highspeed recalls some of them.

Men are physically and emotionally stronger then women.

Highspeed tends to agree with the physical side. Men are generally stronger than women. But women, I dare say, are emotionally stronger than men. They even live longer.

Another one: Men are smarter than women. The playing field is equal. No gender is smarter than the other.

More “gasgas” (usual but mistaken belief) gender stereotypes:

Women who prefer the company of men are either flirt or lesbian.

Conversely, men who prefer the company of women are gay. False, of course.

Women are talkative. Men are silent. It depends. Case to case basis.

Women are more caring than men. Agree 100 percent.

Men work. Women stay at home. True…50 years ago. Nowadays women work to help the family income. Haven’t heard of “househusbands?”

MORE gender stereotypes:

Women are pink. Men are blue. It’s time the “color barrier” is demolished.

Girls play with dolls. Boys prefer guns. No comment.

Volleyball for women. Basketball for men. No such distinction these days.

How about talk that men cook better than women? While the top chefs are men, women are catching up. Think Gaita Fores, Jesse Sincioco, Glenda Barretto, Myrna Seguismundo, Heny Sison, Reggie Aspiras, Judy Ann Santos, Janice de Belen.
