NORA IS LOLA DOC: An exciting new leaf turns as Nora Aunor celebrates her 67th birth anniversary on May 21.

The Superstar is going online in a rare theatrical performance.

Nora is taking center stage in a very timely presentation, as the lead in a monovlog that echoes the grief and strength of Filipinos as they try to struggle with the COVID-19 crisis.

“Lola Doc,” written by Layeta Bucoy, is scheduled to premiere on Tanghalang Pilipino’s Youtube channel in time for Nora’s birthday.

Layeta says “Lola Doc” talks about the pain of losing one’s husband in the middle of a pandemic even as this one Lola tries to remain strong for her family. The senior citizen courageously faces the risk of being stricken by the deadly virus to attend to the sick.

When beleaguered by grief and guilt, where do you draw strength to carry on with your sworn duty as a senior front liner? Layeta asks.

Nora’s very first online engagement was through ABS-CBN’s “Gabi ng Himala,” held April 21, a fund-raiser for displaced film workers.

PEOPLE’S ARTIST: “Lola Doc” is an added testimony to Nora as a national people’s artist.

Through the years, she has essayed characters that capture the essence of being Filipino in various points in our history.

Early in the 1970s, Nora echoed the voice of oppressed Filipinos fighting American colonialism in “Minsa’y Isang Gamu- Gamu.” She embodied the sentiments of OFW’s in a PETA play, “DH.”

Among her socially conscious films are “Himala,” “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos,” “Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit,” “The Flor Contemplacion Story,” “Bakit May Kahapon Pa?”
