JUST A THOUGHT: “Life is not a final exam. It’s daily pop quizzes.” – Ann Crittenden

UNCERTAIN RESUMPTION: Hounded by uncertainty in the resumption of work in show business as a result of Covid-19, concerned parties have been holding fund-raising events for displaced workers.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Mowelfund have offered help to those interested.

Other informal groups of musicians have been doing online concerts to help not just our front liners but also fellow artists. Easily hard hit are those who play in bars.

Fifty-plus days into quarantine, the industry (movies, TV, live acts) can never be certain if and when it can reopen. Fear remains in people’s hearts just thinking of being cooped up in a movie house.

FOUR TIMES: In appraising the value of a film, the late director and National Artist Gerardo de Leon would watch a movie four times.

Wrote Agustin Sotto (RIP) in an essay: “He would watch a film four times; the first to go over the literary elements (plot, character, etc.) for they must be concise and clear; the second, to analyze the camera angles and the blocking, for the visuals have to be clean and crisp, understandable even without dialogue; the third, to take note of the acting and to look over the production design, for as the films at that time were in black and white, the elements must suggest color. On the fourth time, he would just sit back, relax, and enjoy the movie.’’
