ONE of the noticeable effects of conflicts and impending wars is that people get to realize the value of peace. All of a sudden, they talk about peace – which is good. Having peace is a result of continuing and consistent peace-building efforts involving different sectors of the society. Every person has a role to help maintain peace.

Here are useful peacemaking concepts.

Attract peace by thinking about peace. If you are mindful of this, your words and actions will be aligned to your goal.

Ask yourself if there is a better way of dealing with a conflict. Be open to advice and always choose a peaceful resolution of any disagreement. “Blessed are the peacemakers”!

Avoid listening to war freaks and people who always want to get even. They are angry and vengeful. Strive to become the opposite.

Check the levels of tolerance and respect that you show to other people. It wouldn’t hurt to give more in the name of peace. Besides, karma is real!

Sow more of what you want to harvest.

Finally, here is a simple prayer for peace.

A Native American Prayer for Peace

O Great Spirit of our Ancestors, we raise the pipe to you, to your messengers the four winds, and to Mother Earth who provides for your children. Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, to be kind to each other so that they may grow with peace in mind. Let us learn to share all the good things that you provide for us on this Earth.
