SORSOGON CITY – Forty passengers, two drivers and a conductor miraculously survived when a Samar-bound bus fell into a 50-meter deep ravine in Barangay Hidhid, Matnog town, Sorsogon province, Monday morning.

Colonel Roque Bausa, director of Sorsogon Police Provincial Office (PPO), said an Eagle Star bus with body number 8168 from Metro Manila fell off a cliff at about 9:50 a.m. while traveling along a descending sharp curve of the national highway in Barangay Hidhid.

Bausa said only three people sustained minor injuries. All of the passengers were brought to Matnog Medicare Hospital for medical attention.

“Immediately, Matnog Police Station responded to the area and coordinated with other nearby municipalities for possible rescue operation. Fortunately, all passengers were safe and no major casualty or injury reported.  They were immediately brought to nearest hospital for medical attention,” Bausa said.

He said investigation was still ongoing as of press time.

Cherry Lolos, a local media in Sorsogon, said one of the passengers claimed that the  bus overtook another bus.

“According po sa mga pasahero, nag-overtake talaga ‘yung driver kaya nawalan ng control,” she said. (Nino Luces)
