“SOMETIMES in our lives

We all have pain

We all have sorrow

But if we are wise

We know that there’s always tomorrow.”

As the song says, everybody needs a shoulder to lean on. Friends can help make life bearable. I’m sure you remember the times you were hurt, disappointed and afraid – and it mattered a lot that someone cared enough to listen to you.

It’s important to talk about something that bothers you. When you overthink, you tend to believe that a problem is too big for you, but looking at the situation from your friend’s perspective makes you realize that it can be overcome. It’s not big. It’s not a hopeless situation.

Do you have such kind of friends? They support you even when they have their own burdens. They help you find options and solutions. They encourage you. Keep them!

You’ll never know who the real ones are – unless you encounter rejections and difficulties of different kinds. Everybody can laugh with you when times are good. Sad to say, not everybody wants to share in your suffering. Sometimes the ones who laugh with you are the first ones to leave you just when you need emotional support. May we never allow them to prevent us from experiencing enriching and fulfilling friendships just because we were terribly hurt before.

It’s okay. The benefits of caring genuinely far outweigh the heartaches that some fair-weather friends can bring.

People who have a regular social interaction are happier and healthier compared to those who rarely interact with others. Even the onset of dementia is postponed when people have strong social ties.

Maintaining friendships sometimes demands so much time, but the good effects are worth it.
