Former Bureau of Corrections chief now Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa may be among the prison officials to be investigated over the release of heinous crime convicts based on the Good Conduct Time Allowance law or Republic Act No. 10592.
President Duterte said he was certain that Dela Rosa would cooperate with the investigation of the Ombudsman on the matter.
Dela Rosa served as the head of BuCor from April to October 2018 following his retirement from the police service.
He recently admitted he approved the release orders of around 120 heinous crime convicts for good conduct during his term as BuCor chief.
“I am sure he would be ready to submit himself. Lahat naman eh, sabi ko,” the President said when asked if Dela Rosa will be part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Duterte is planning to ask Congress to craft a law clarifying the good conduct time allowance for inmates following the contentious massive early release of hundreds of heinous crime convicts.
The President has agreed that the RA 10592 should be amended to “clarify everything” after noticing some “misleading” construction of some provisions.
“As President, it is my duty to solve the problem, rectify the error, and maybe ask Congress to come up with a law clarifying everything. Isang word lang ‘yan. One or two words. I think a lot of them have already submitted their amendatory bill,” he said. (Genalyn Kabiling)
