The Supreme Court (SC) has not acted on the plea for a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the implementation of the ban on provincial buses from plying along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
SC sources said the three petitions against the ban were not even taken up in Tuesday’s full court session.
Without a TRO from the SC, there will be no legal impediment for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to push through with its dry run of the ban scheduled on Aug. 6 or 7.
Before the dry run set next week, the only hope of petitioners to get a TRO would be on Aug. 6. But the SC meets starting 10 a.m. for its full court session and normally finishes at past noon of the same day, Aug. 6 or Tuesday next week. It could not be ascertained if the petitions could still be taken up.
The MMDA has been directed to comment on the three petitions. It has shelved for further study the implementation of the ban under Regulation No. 19-002.
Earlier, the MMDA had said that the regulation was aimed at easing traffic along EDSA, a traffic-clogged main thoroughfare that traverses several cities, and eventually within Metro Manila. (Rey Panaligan)
