CAMP OLA, Albay – A five-year-old girl died after she was accidentally shot by her six-year-old male cousin with a .45 caliber pistol in Camalig, Albay Saturday.

Police Major Malu Calubaquib, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 5, said the incident happened at around 1:30 p.m. in Barangay Baligang.

Investigation showed that prior to the incident, the boy’s mother Maevel, wife of Army Corporal Ronel B. Baldo who owns the gun, asked his brother Aaron to unload bullets from the firearm and put the gun in a safe place.

The boy and the victim arrived and he managed to get the gun which was placed on the top of the table in the kitchen.

However, the boy accidentally squeezed the trigger and hit the victim.

The victim sustained a bullet wound in the chest. She was taken to a hospital where she died.

Calubaquib said the victim’s mother is in Japan at the time of the incident.

“Yung mother ng victim na six months pa lang na nasa Japan ay kapatid nung mother ng suspect. Nakatira ‘yung dalawang pamilya sa iisang bahay, sa magulang. ‘Yung tatay naman ng biktima ay nasa Guinobatan daw at wala sa bahay,” Calubaquib said. (Nino Luces)
