THREE people died during a fire that razed a two-storey house in Sampaloc, Manila, past 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The lone survivor Roselyn Salcedo, 19, said smoke coming from the ground floor of their house at 658 Doña Maria Street awakened them.

She managed to escape, but her family members — Rose Valentine, 50, mother; Jordan Valentine, 26, brother; and Genre Tropicales, 17, cousin — were trapped on the second floor as the heat coming from the fire below became unbearable for them.

“Lahat kami talagang inuubo na…sobrang nakakain na naming ‘yung usok sa kapal,” she said in an interview with DZMM.

“Nung paglabas ko pinipilit ko silang ano buksan ‘yung ceiling. Tapos inaantay ko talaga sila lumabas. Tapos wala nang lumabas,” she added.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze at 6:47 a.m.

The victims were found lifeless on the second floor after the fire.

According to Manila chief arson investigator Senior Inspector Reden Alumno, the fire  possibly started from the wiring near the ceiling on the ground floor.

Further investigation is ongoing. (Ria Fernandez)
