Barangay chief gunned down; victim was on his way to Manila city hall

A BARANGAY chairman who just attended an anti-drug seminar was gunned down while traversing Maria Orosa St. corner Padre Burgos St. in Manila yesterday afternoon.

Village officials from Sta. Cruz identified the victim as Angel Rivero Jr., chairman of Barangay 330, Zone 33 in Sta. Cruz, Manila. He died on the spot after sustaining a bullet wound in the head.

Vergel Francisco, Sangguniang Kabataan chairman in the barangay, said that they had just conducted an anti-drug seminar in a restaurant on Padre Burgos St.

After the seminar, Rivero boarded a motorcycle but was gunned down by an unidentified gunman on his way to Manila City Hall at around 2 p.m., Francisco added.

Officials said that he was a good man and had no known enemies.

Follow-up investigation is now underway.
